Forested RV campground in Olympic National Park with an easy waterfall trail and optional access to natural hot spring pools next door.
Sol Duc Campground nestles in a cathedral of old-growth Douglas fir along the Sol Duc River. The Sol Duc Falls trail, an easy 1.6-mile round trip, ends at one of the most photogenic waterfalls on the peninsula. Families can purchase day passes to the adjacent Sol Duc Hot Springs Resort mineral pools for a memorable soak after a day of hiking.
Sol Duc Valley is draped in some of Olympic National Park's most ancient old-growth forest, where 200-foot Douglas fir and Sitka spruce create a cathedral canopy over the salmon-bearing Sol Duc River. The valley's geothermal hot springs — fueling the Sol Duc Hot Springs Resort — hint at the volcanic forces beneath the Olympic Peninsula, while Sol Duc Falls plunges into a narrow canyon just 0.8 miles from the campground. The surrounding Bogachiel and Sol Duc watersheds are critical habitat for four runs of wild salmon and steelhead, with fall salmon spawning visible directly from riverside trails.

Sites along the Sol Duc River in Loop A (sites 1–20) are the most desirable — the sound of the river is constant and the old-growth canopy is stunning. Loops C and D near the hot springs resort are convenient if you plan to use the pools daily (fee required). Request Loop A or B; Loop D tends to get more resort foot traffic. All loops are shaded.
