Washington State Parks — built for exploration

Daroga State Park fronts the Columbia River at the base of the Chelan Butte, where the landscape transitions from shrub-steppe desert to the orchard-covered benches of the Okanogan Highlands — a striking ecological boundary between semi-arid plateau and irrigated valley. The Columbia River below Wells Dam still supports wild steelhead and Chinook salmon runs, and the river corridor is recognized as important wintering habitat for bald eagles that concentrate below dams to feed on fish passing through turbines. Lake Entiat above Wells Dam is a productive largemouth bass and walleye fishery, while the surrounding arid hillsides provide habitat for canyon wren, rock wren, and prairie falcon nesting in the eroded basalt formations above the river.

🗺️

Small, excellent park that's often overlooked in favour of Lincoln Rock. Hookup waterfront sites are superb — all 28 sites are close to the Columbia River. Sites 1–12 nearest the sandy swim beach are the premium picks. The swimming is outstanding and the park is rarely as crowded as Lincoln Rock or Lake Wenatchee. A great low-key destination for a long weekend on the eastern Columbia.
