Why Visit

Lake Chelan State Park

Lake Chelan State Park hugs the southern shore of one of Washington's most spectacular alpine lakes — 50 miles long, 1,486 feet deep, and clear as glass. Thirty-five full-hookup sites and 18 partial-hookup sites accommodate RVs up to 45 feet with large bathhouses, hot showers, a boat dock, and a dump station. Nine miles east, the charming lakefront town of Chelan offers waterfront restaurants, wine bars, and the Lake Chelan Boat Company's Lady of the Lake ferry to remote Stehekin. Book well in advance — this is one of eastern Washington's most sought-after campgrounds.

Washington State Parks — built for exploration

Lake Chelan is the third deepest lake in the United States at 1,486 feet, carved by a glacier so powerful that the lake bottom lies below sea level — and the clear, nutrient-poor water gives it exceptional visibility and a striking deep blue color visible from overlooks above. The 50-mile-long lake serves as the primary access corridor to the Stehekin community and the Glacier Peak Wilderness beyond, where the Lady of the Lake ferry is the only connection for one of the most remote settled valleys in the lower 48 states. The lake's thermal stratification supports distinct fisheries at different depths — kokanee in the shallows, lake trout in the depths — while the surrounding Chelan Butte Wildlife Area above the campground provides critical habitat for mule deer, bighorn sheep, and chukar.

🗺️

Waterfront loop sites sell out within minutes of the 6-month booking window opening — set a reminder and book immediately. Sites near the boat launch are convenient for water access. The upper hookup loops are comfortable for longer stays. The Chelan area gets 300+ sunny days per year; bring sun protection. The ferry to Stehekin departs from Chelan town (3 miles) — a must-do day trip if time allows.
