Why Visit

Verlot Campground

Verlot Campground is one of the first campgrounds on the scenic Mountain Loop Highway, just 11 miles east of Granite Falls along the South Fork Stillaguamish River. Twenty-six sites accommodate RVs up to 35 feet, and the campground boasts flush toilets — a significant luxury for a National Forest facility. Potable water and fire pits are on site. The Verlot Public Service Center nearby has maps, permits, and ranger advice for Mountain Loop recreation.

National Park

One of Washington's crown jewels

Verlot Campground and the adjacent Public Service Center sit at the heart of the Mountain Loop Highway's scenic corridor, surrounded by some of the largest old-growth Douglas fir and western hemlock remaining in the Mt. Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest. The South Fork Stillaguamish River at Verlot is one of the more accessible stretches of wild salmon river in the North Cascades foothills, with coho and Chinook spawning in the gravel reaches adjacent to the campground in October and November. Lake 22, a 2.7-mile hike from Verlot, sits in a cirque beneath a prominent waterfall and cliff face and is recognized as one of the finest subalpine lake day hikes in the western Cascades — the upper basin holds snow well into summer and supports an active black bear population.

Sites on the South Fork Stillaguamish (1–12) are the most scenic. The Verlot Public Service Centre adjacent to camp is excellent for trail maps and current road conditions on the Mountain Loop. A great base for Big Four Ice Caves, Monte Cristo, and Heather Lake trails. Small and fills fast on summer weekends; arrive by Friday midday.
