Why Visit

Shannon Creek Campground

Shannon Creek Campground sits at the north end of Baker Lake where the Baker River flows in, offering 19 sites (17 single, 2 double) for RVs up to 35 feet with vault toilets and potable water. The Baker Lake Trail and Baker River Trail both originate nearby, with the river trail leading into North Cascades National Park. Bald eagles are commonly seen here year-round, attracted by the salmon runs in the Baker River in fall. A quieter alternative to the more crowded south end campgrounds.

One of Washington's crown jewels

Shannon Creek Campground occupies a forested site on Baker Lake's eastern shore, backed by the steep Kulshan Ridge that separates the lake from the North Cascades backcountry above, in a forest dominated by massive old-growth western red cedar and Sitka spruce. The lake's exceptional clarity comes from glacial meltwater draining Mount Baker's Easton and Coleman Glaciers, and the surrounding forest has never been logged since the reservoir was created — creating a rare old-growth lakeside environment. Shadow of the Sentinels interpretive trail — an accessible 0.5-mile walk through 800-year-old Douglas fir just south of camp — offers one of the most accessible old-growth forest experiences in the North Cascades without leaving the valley floor.

🗺️

Adjacent to the Shannon Creek boat launch on Baker Lake — excellent for paddlers and anglers. Sites with lake views (1–10) are the first to go. Quieter and slightly less crowded than Horseshoe Cove. A good backup when Horseshoe is fully booked; check availability on the same booking window. Same stunning Baker Lake water as Horseshoe Cove.
