National Park

One of Washington's crown jewels

Douglas Fir Campground sits at the confluence of the North Fork Nooksack River and Glacier Creek, at the foot of Mount Baker's dramatic north face — one of the steepest glacier faces in the Cascades, where the Coleman-Deming Glacier descends from the summit in a massive ice wall. The Mount Baker Scenic Byway above camp is one of the most spectacular mountain drives in the Pacific Northwest, climbing through old-growth forest to Heather Meadows at 4,200 feet where the Artist Point area provides one of the most photographed mountain panoramas in Washington. The North Fork Nooksack River is critical Chinook salmon habitat, and spawning salmon are visible in the river gravel adjacent to the campground in late fall — a powerful reminder that this entire ecosystem from mountain glacier to marine estuary functions as a single connected system.

🗺️

Old-growth Douglas firs up to 6 ft in diameter provide stunning canopy cover. Sites near the North Fork Nooksack River (1–10) are the most scenic. The Nooksack Falls viewpoint (2 mi east) is a must-visit. A good base for Mt Baker day hikes before the higher-elevation camps. The shaded sites stay cooler on hot days. Fills on peak summer weekends.
