Why Visit

Horseshoe Cove Campground

Horseshoe Cove is consistently one of the top family campgrounds at Baker Lake, with 38 sites accommodating RVs around 30 feet. The standout amenity is the swimming beach with a roped-off shallow-water section perfect for young children — rare for a National Forest campground. Flush toilets (another rarity), potable water, and a boat launch complete the picture. A family trail loop links the campground to nearby Bayview for extended walks. About 15 miles from Concrete via Baker Lake Road.

National Park

One of Washington's crown jewels

Horseshoe Cove Campground sits on Baker Lake's forested western shore at the base of the North Cascades wilderness, where the lake's aquamarine glacial waters reflect the snow-capped shoulders of Mount Baker on clear mornings above the treeline. The Baker River trail above the campground penetrates North Cascades National Park within 2 miles, entering a valley of towering old-growth Sitka spruce and cottonwood along a river fed entirely by glacial meltwater from Mount Shuksan and the Picket Range. The Baker Lake watershed is at the center of one of the Pacific Northwest's most significant salmon restoration projects, with fish passage facilities under evaluation to reopen the upper river to Chinook salmon that historically spawned above the dam.

🗺️

Baker Lake's turquoise-blue glacier water is the main attraction. Sites 1–15 near the roped kids' swim beach are the most popular — book these the moment reservations open. The vivid water colour from Mt Baker's glacial flour is most intense in late summer. Loop A sites closest to the lake are premium; book any site in Loop A over Loop B. Fills completely most summer weekends — this is one of WA's best campgrounds.
