Why Visit

Goodell Creek Campground

Goodell Creek is a smaller, more intimate campground on the Skagit River just west of Newhalem, popular with anglers and whitewater rafters who use the adjacent launch site. The forested sites are shaded and close to the water. Trail access to the North Cascades Visitor Center makes it an easy companion to Newhalem Creek Campground.

National Park

One of Washington's crown jewels

Goodell Creek sits in the lower Skagit River gorge at the western entrance to North Cascades National Park, where the river's glacial turquoise waters surge through a canyon of ancient metamorphic rock flanked by old-growth forest. The Skagit River below the campground hosts the largest winter concentration of bald eagles in the lower 48 states — up to 600 birds gather from December through February to feed on spawning chum salmon in the river gravel reaches. North Cascades National Park's wilderness begins immediately above the campground and extends north to the Canadian border in an unbroken roadless landscape of glaciers, wolves, and grizzly bear habitat.

🗺️

Small and rustic; best for small rigs (under 22 ft) and van campers — the loop is tight. Walk-in tent sites along the Skagit River are beautiful and the highlight of this campground. Very popular with kayakers running the Skagit. First-come, first-served; often has midweek availability even in summer. Bring bear canisters — wildlife is active in this corridor.
