Why Visit

Newhalem Creek Campground

Newhalem Creek is the largest and most developed campground in the North Cascades park complex, set in towering western hemlock and redcedar forest along the Skagit River. It is right next to the North Cascades Visitor Center, making it easy to pick up maps and catch ranger programs. Three short family trails start within a short walk of camp.

National Park

One of Washington's crown jewels

Newhalem Creek sits in the lower Skagit River canyon at the gateway to North Cascades National Park, where glacier-clad peaks rise abruptly from dense temperate rainforest in one of the most dramatic mountain landscapes in North America. The North Cascades contain more active glaciers than any range in the contiguous United States — over 300 glaciers by count — and their meltwater feeds the Skagit River, which supports the largest winter bald eagle concentration in the lower 48 states. The Skagit River's fall Chinook salmon run draws hundreds of eagles to the valley each January and February, making the Newhalem area one of the most reliable eagle-watching destinations in the Pacific Northwest.

🗺️

Loop C is the best choice for RVs — the widest sites, easiest turns, and several pull-throughs for rigs up to 35 ft. Loops A and B are denser and more forested. The North Cascades Visitor Centre in Newhalem village is a short walk and worth a stop for the interpretive exhibits. Sites in Loop C near the back row have the best mountain backdrop views.
