Why Visit

Millersylvania State Park

Millersylvania is a hidden gem just 12 miles south of Olympia, tucked into a 842-acre old-growth forest of Douglas fir, red cedar, and hemlock. The campground offers 48 electric-only sites on hardened pads accommodating RVs up to 60 feet — unusually spacious for a state park close to a major metro area. Deep Lake anchors the park with a swimming beach staffed by lifeguards in summer, plus a boat launch (electric motors only) for fishing or paddling. Five miles of hiking trails wind through the ancient forest, and the historic 1930s-era CCC structures add character throughout. The park's proximity to I-5 Exit 95 makes it one of the most accessible forested campgrounds in western Washington, with Olympia's full services — including a Costco — just 12 miles north.

Washington State Parks — built for exploration

Millersylvania State Park sits on Deep Lake south of Olympia, preserving a significant stand of old-growth Douglas fir and western red cedar — the largest intact lowland old-growth grove in the South Puget Sound region. The park's ancient forest contains trees estimated at 300–500 years old that now support pileated woodpecker, spotted owl, and old-growth-dependent bird species that have disappeared from the surrounding logged Chehalis Valley lowlands. Deep Lake and its surrounding wetlands provide habitat for great blue herons, osprey, and a remarkable diversity of migratory waterfowl during Pacific Flyway passage, with the state fish hatchery supplementing a naturally productive trout fishery.

🗺️

Deep Lake waterfront sites in Loop A (1–40) are the most popular — book these first. Loops B and C have full hookup sites convenient for extended stays. The lake is excellent for non-motorized boating and swimming. Easy access to Olympia and the Capitol Campus for day trips. The old-growth forest trails in the park interior are beautiful and underused — a peaceful morning walk from any campsite.
