Why Visit

Lewis and Clark State Park

Lewis and Clark State Park protects one of Washington's last remaining stands of lowland old-growth forest — towering Douglas fir and western red cedar that pre-date European settlement. Four full-hookup sites and nine water-and-electric sites accommodate RVs up to 60 feet, with flush restrooms, showers, and a dump station. Winding forest trails pass through century-old trees, fern-draped streams, and wetlands. Located on the I-5 corridor 12 miles south of Chehalis, it's equally convenient as a Seattle-to-Portland overnight stop.

Washington State Parks — built for exploration

Lewis and Clark State Park preserves a 621-acre old-growth forest in the Chehalis River lowlands — one of the last significant stands of unlogged lowland Douglas fir in western Washington south of the Olympic Peninsula. The park's ancient forest contains trees estimated at 200–500 years old, creating a structure that supports northern spotted owl, pileated woodpecker, and old-growth-dependent wildlife communities that have largely disappeared from the surrounding Chehalis Valley. The Chehalis River system flowing through the surrounding valley is one of Washington's most important salmon and steelhead watersheds, and the park's forest serves as a critical riparian buffer protecting the river corridor from the encroaching development of I-5.

🗺️

Sites 1–12 in the old-growth loop are among the most impressive in any WA state park — massive Douglas firs 200+ years old provide full canopy cover. Book these first. Sites 13–25 in the secondary loop are in younger forest and more open. No hookups are available. This small, beautiful park fills on summer weekends — arrive by Thursday. The old-growth trail loop is a must-do even if you're not camping.
