National Park

One of Washington's crown jewels

Kalaloch occupies a dramatic bluff above the Pacific Ocean within Olympic National Park's coastal strip, where wave-sculpted sea stacks and driftwood-laden beaches stretch uninterrupted for miles in each direction. The Kalaloch area is prime habitat for gray whale observation during spring migration, while the rocky intertidal zones host colorful tide pool communities of sea stars, anemones, and chitons. Olympic's coastal section is one of the few stretches of wild Pacific shoreline in the lower 48 states without a road running along it, making these beaches among the most pristine in the country.

🗺️

Sites 1–40 in the upper bluff loop have glimpses of the Pacific through the trees and are the most coveted — book these 6 months out. Lower loops are more sheltered from ocean wind and better for families. Sites near the lodge restaurant (sites 155–170) are convenient for supplies. Bring windbreaks for any exposed site; storms move in fast off the Pacific.
