Why Visit

Kachess Campground

Kachess Campground on Kachess Lake is the largest National Forest campground in Washington, with 150 reservable sites spread along the lake's forested northwest shore at 2,200 feet elevation. Select sites accommodate RVs from 37 to 86 feet, making it one of the few NF campgrounds where larger motorhomes fit comfortably. Note: water is via handpumps only — fill tanks before arrival and do not attach hoses directly. Vault toilets, a boat launch, and a designated swimming area complete the amenities. Book early; this fills quickly due to proximity to Seattle.

National Park

One of Washington's crown jewels

Kachess Campground sits on the shore of Kachess Lake — a deep glacially carved reservoir at 2,200 feet in the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest — where surrounding old-growth and mature forest provides habitat for a near-intact mid-Cascades ecosystem. The Alpine Lakes Wilderness begins at the lake's eastern shore, and trails above camp access the Norse Peak and Teanaway country — a landscape of granite peaks, subalpine meadows, and glacial tarns connecting to the Enchantments corridor. Kachess Lake serves as a primary drinking water reservoir for the Yakima Valley, and the intact forested watershed surrounding it represents one of the best examples of functioning forest water filtration remaining in the Washington Cascades.
