Why Visit

Fort Ebey State Park

Fort Ebey occupies dramatic ocean bluffs along the Strait of Juan de Fuca, built as a WWII coastal defense installation in 1942. Eleven of the 50 campsites have water and electric hookups, accommodating RVs up to 40 feet. The park features over 25 miles of forested hiking and biking trails — some of the best on Whidbey Island — plus excellent paragliding launch sites. No dump station on site. Note: U.S. Navy jets from NAS Whidbey Island conduct training flights overhead at various times.

State Park

Washington State Parks — built for exploration

Fort Ebey State Park occupies a dramatic section of Whidbey Island's western bluffs above the Strait of Juan de Fuca, where WWII-era gun batteries overlook a marine corridor traveled by cargo ships, ferries, and seasonal migrations of gray whales. The park's Kettles Trail system winds through a 25-mile network of potholes and ridges formed by retreating glaciers 12,000 years ago, creating a uniquely varied landscape of freshwater ponds and forested kettle depressions within steps of the saltwater bluffs. The Strait of Juan de Fuca below the park's bluffs is a critical migration corridor for Pacific gray whales traveling between Baja California and the Arctic, with northbound whales passing closest to shore in March and April.

🗺️

Small park that rarely fills outside holiday weekends — one of the better last-minute options on Whidbey Island. Sites 1–20 in the main loop are closest to the bluff and beach trails. Sites 21–50 in the second loop are more wind-sheltered and better for tent camping in rough weather. The short trail to Point Partridge beach from Loop 1 offers excellent whale and sea lion watching in spring.
