State Park

Washington State Parks — built for exploration

Deception Pass State Park occupies the dramatic strait between Whidbey Island and Fidalgo Island, where tidal currents ripping through the narrow gorge create one of the most powerful tidal exchanges on Puget Sound. The park encompasses 4,134 acres of old-growth forest, rocky shoreline, freshwater lakes, and Cranberry Lake, giving it a remarkable ecological range for a marine state park this close to a major metropolitan area. The surrounding waters of the Salish Sea fall within the Deception Pass State Marine Recreation Area, protecting kelp forests, rockfish habitat, and the migration corridor for pods of orca that travel the Strait of Juan de Fuca seasonally.

🗺️

Loop 5 nearest the beach fills first — book these sites 6 months out. Loop 3 and 4 around Cranberry Lake are ideal for families with young children (calm fresh water, no surf). Loop 1 has pull-through hookup sites that handle 40+ ft rigs. The iconic bridge is a 10-minute walk from any loop. Avoid Loop 2 in peak season — it borders the day-use parking lot and can be noisy.
