Washington State Parks — built for exploration

Fort Casey occupies Admiralty Head on central Whidbey Island, where the headland overlooks Admiralty Inlet — the primary channel connecting Puget Sound to the Strait of Juan de Fuca and one of the most biologically productive marine corridors in the Pacific Northwest. The waters below the fort bluffs are a recognized winter gathering area for common murre, marbled murrelet, and rhinoceros auklet, and harbor porpoise are regular year-round residents of the inlet's fast tidal currents. Whidbey Island's undeveloped stretches, including Ebey's Landing National Historical Reserve adjacent to the park, protect one of the most intact coastal prairie and natural landscapes remaining on a Puget Sound island, with grasslands that support short-eared owl and northern harrier.

🗺️

The campground is compact and exposed to Puget Sound winds — bring extra tent stakes. Sites nearest the lighthouse end of the park (high numbers) have better views across Admiralty Inlet. The ferry from Port Townsend docks 2 miles away — convenient for day tripping. Sites near the beach have a concrete path that makes strolling with kids easy. Combine with Fort Ebey (10 mi) for a 2-park Whidbey Island trip.
