Why Visit

Dash Point State Park

Dash Point State Park packs 140 campsites into 398 acres of forested bluffs above Puget Sound near Federal Way. Sites are compact and situated on uneven grades — RVs should be no longer than 32 feet, and leveling blocks are essential. Electric hookups are available at some sites. No showers. The payoff is dense second-growth forest trails and a good stretch of Puget Sound beach just below the bluffs, all within 40 minutes of Seattle.

Washington State Parks — built for exploration

Dash Point State Park protects a forested headland and sandy beach between Federal Way and Tacoma, where 11 miles of trail preserve one of the largest blocks of mature second-growth forest remaining on Puget Sound's eastern shoreline. The park's beach at low tide exposes a rich intertidal community of purple sea urchins, sea stars, and Dungeness crab, and great blue herons nest in a rookery within the park's upland forest and fish the tidal flats daily. Dash Point's beach faces Commencement Bay, and harbor porpoise are frequently spotted from the shoreline — the park records some of the highest orca sighting frequencies of any southern Puget Sound shoreline accessible by road.

🗺️

The Forest Loop (sites 1–60) is deeply shaded by second-growth firs — the best option for hot summer days. Beach Loop sites (61–100) are closer to the Puget Sound shoreline and excellent for sunset watching. Hookup sites in Loops C and D are well-spaced. Surprisingly peaceful given the Tacoma metro location — mature forest buffers traffic noise effectively. The beach walk at low tide stretches for miles.
