Why Visit

Bridgeport State Park

Bridgeport State Park occupies a striking high-desert setting along Lake Rufus Woods, the reservoir behind Chief Joseph Dam near the confluence of the Okanogan and Columbia Rivers. The 20 water-and-electric sites accommodate RVs up to 45 feet with open sagebrush-and-grass surroundings typical of the Columbia Plateau. The park is unique in the Washington State system for its 9-hole golf course, which is open to the public and popular with campers. Lake Rufus Woods is renowned for trophy-sized walleye, and the park's boat launch provides easy access. The nearby town of Bridgeport (2 miles) has basic services. This remote park rewards those willing to make the drive with solitude, dramatic coulée canyon views, and dark skies for stargazing.

Washington State Parks — built for exploration

Bridgeport State Park sits on Rufus Woods Lake on the Columbia River in the arid shrub-steppe landscape where the Okanogan Highlands meet the Columbia Plateau in a dramatic geological and ecological transition. The Columbia River here supports one of the last wild runs of upper Columbia spring Chinook salmon — fish that migrate 800 miles from the Pacific to spawning grounds near the Canadian border in one of the longest salmon migrations in North America. The eroded basalt buttes above the river are prime nesting habitat for golden eagle and turkey vulture, and the Chief Joseph Dam fishway just downstream provides one of the more accessible locations to observe migrating salmon in the upper Columbia.

🗺️

Small, 20-site park on the Chief Joseph Dam reservoir. Sites near the water offer the best experience. The lake warms quickly and is excellent for swimming by July. Hiker and biker primitive sites are available separately. Fills fast on summer weekends given its small size. A low-key, uncrowded park with good fishing for walleye and bass in the warm reservoir water.
