High-elevation first-come RV campground at Mount Rainier with alpine meadow access, glacier views, and the Sunrise Visitor Center nearby.
At 4,400 feet elevation, White River is the highest developed campground at Mount Rainier and the closest to the Sunrise area. Families drive 5 miles up to Sunrise Visitor Center for sweeping views of the Emmons Glacier and wildflower meadow hikes. The campground sits in subalpine forest along the White River, open late June through September.
White River Campground sits at 4,400 feet on the northeast flank of Mount Rainier, at the edge of subalpine forest where the glacially-fed White River emerges from the Emmons Glacier — the largest glacier by area in the lower 48 states. The Sunrise Visitor Center at 6,400 feet, just 5 miles above camp, offers the closest road access to Mount Rainier's high country and panoramic views of the Cascades from the Okanogan Highlands to Mount Adams. Wildlife in this high-elevation zone includes Olympic and Cascade marmots sunning on boulder fields, black bears foraging subalpine berry patches in late summer, and pikas calling from rocky slopes throughout the day.

At 4,400 ft this is one of the highest drive-in campgrounds in the park — expect cold nights even in July. Sites on the east side of the campground near the White River offer the best scenery. Upper loop sites receive afternoon sun, which is welcome at this elevation. Excellent staging point for Sunrise visitors — arrive the evening before and beat the sunrise road crowds. No hookups; generator hours strictly enforced.
