One of Washington's crown jewels

Eightmile Campground sits in the Icicle Creek corridor at the base of the Stuart Range's granite towers — some of the most dramatic rock climbing terrain in Washington — with direct trail access into the Alpine Lakes Wilderness above camp. The Icicle River flowing past camp is critical wild steelhead habitat, and the crystal-clear water running over granite gravel is among the most undiluted Cascade creek environments accessible by road in the eastern Cascades. The Enchantments, beginning just 6 miles up the drainage, represent one of the most spectacular permitted wilderness destinations in the Pacific Northwest — a series of glacially polished granite lakes at 7,000 feet inhabited by a resident herd of mountain goats.

🗺️

Icicle Creek sites (1–20) in the lower loop are the nicest — shaded, cool, and with the sound of the creek. This is the most popular campground on Icicle Road; it fills earliest for summer weekends. Walk or bike to Leavenworth's Bavarian downtown (3 miles) for meals and supplies. An excellent base for the Enchantments wilderness area — the trailhead is 5 miles further up Icicle Road.
